About Our Company
Background

National League Music was founded in 1984, first as a publishing division of a major label distributed record company and by 1986 as a full fledged, full service independent alternative for publishing administration, royalty collection, music placement. In short a world-wide music publishing organization.

Principal

Founder, Jay Warner is a six-time Grammy-winning music publisher, three decades ASCAP west coast advisory board member, recipient of the heroes and legends pioneer award for music publishing in 2001, and has been included in the prestigious United States Congressional Record for his achievements in the music publishing industry.
He is also the author of the best selling book, the first in depth text book on music publishing, “How To Have Your Hit Song Published” (Hal Leonard Publications) which has been in continuous print since 1978 and is in its fourth edition.

Finding Your Money

Our extensive and longstanding relationships with major and independent record, film and TV royalty and business affairs departments allows for us to be the gentle (though when it merits, not so gentle) reminder that makes sure your copyrights are being paid for concisely and on time. We are the proverbial “squeaky wheel”, which assures that our clients get properly “greased”. Bottom line, if you don’t make money, we don’t make money.

Our Priorities

Our emphasis has always been based on our three commandments, “protect, collect and exploit”. That is, protect your copyrights worldwide, find and collect all there is to collect (from the Wurlitzer Jukebox to the World Wide Web) and promote your copyrights in any and all creative mediums.

Overseas Collection and Activities

We have a network of active, aggressive independent subpublishers that cover forty-two nations collecting our foreign royalties. All of the major and many smaller territories are covered, as we have found that yesterday’s and today’s small market is often tomorrow’s emerging market. Our foreign affiliates protect your music by registering all of your recorded works and in this ever expanding global industry, you never know if your American releases have been exposed in foreign territories except by virtue of meticulous foreign accountings and close communication with our subpublishers. Being independents, our foreign affiliates also provide creative services using your songs in their local territories wherever possible. If you’re up for a film project, we’ll make sure to get you the best possible licensing fee. If you need a top notch writing collaborator we’re “the matchmakers of music publishing,” if you’ve got an album coming out, whether it’s one song or a whole album, we’ll see it gets to the film companies for that current release to drop into their production. If you have a small or mid size label or film production company, our services are varied and unlimited, from administration and royalty disbursement to soundtrack album services and music supervision. We’re big enough to get the job done, but small enough to give the personal attention your copyrights deserve.

Communication

We believe in keeping our writers and publisher associates “in the loop”, not just copying you on important activities, but with a personal touch that includes strategy meetings and phone calls to optimize the exploitation of your music on our own and in conjunction with your activities.

Warner meets with Congressman Berman

Publisher, Author and President of National League Music Jay Warner hands a copy of his newest edition of “How To Have Your Hit Song Published” to Congressman Howard Berman, Chairman of the House Judiciary Sub-Committee on Courts, the Internet and Intellectual Property. Congressman Berman and Warner met to discuss strategies to educate students and college administrators as to compliance with laws governing illegal downloading as well as music piracy. The meeting came on the heels of the U.S. filing World Trade Organization (WTO) actions against China for that country’s failure to sufficiently protect intellectual property rights.
